Is Kamala Harris the “New Green Hope?”

Maybe, Maybe not?

Damn. The fiasco that is United States politics is worse than a low-budget novella. I mean, at some point you have to get your act together Uncle Sam. Listen, we’re no better off in the Caribbean, trust me. But the world’s economy is literally pegged to your currency. Show a little decorum.

I’m glad Tom’s aim was a little off and didn’t make its mark on Orange Jesus. RIP kid, you would have made a lot of people happy. But a life is a life on both ends of the rifle, and we respect that. Only god knows the fallout it would have caused.

But Dirty Joe saying Sayonara mid-thrust in his campaign and passing the baton to Vice President Kamala Harris is nothing short of a mind-blowing Act two.

This is far too wild to be scripted. Martin Scorsese couldn’t come up with this stuff.

And here we are, climate activists in the global south, looking at the rise of Kamala and wondering if she is the leader of the free world that can bring about a climate revolution.

Maybe, I’m fantasizing too deeply. Surely…

At COP28, Harris sat in for Biden and announced a US$3 million climate pledge, launched the US – Caribbean partnership to address climate change and made a bunch of other promises. You know, typical COP style. Oh and hey, let’s not sugarcoat things, before we go ahead be reminded that under the Biden administration, fossil fuel production in the US hit new records.

But the administration is also the most pro-climate in US history. The Harris campaign is using this momentum to fight for the hearts of climate voters in the US.  A relatively small bloc, yes, but one that could sway this 2024 election.

Kamala is one of the early cosponsors of the New Green Deal. But in a past life as Attorney General of California, she too was a badass climate fighter, or so it seems.

She investigated Exxon Mobil for misleading the public about climate risk, fought and won a settlement of USD$86 million from Volkswagon for cheating emissions test, and pursued legal action against Plains All American Pipeline following an oil spill in 2015.

So, do climate conscious voters have some reason to believe Kamala could really be the new green hope the U, S, of A needs? Maybe. If you ask me, she sure beats the other guy.

Hang on tight, the season is just beginning…
